While the last couple ofResident Evilgameshave been remakes, it seems as though Capcom is finally ready to move the franchise forward. Rumors are swirling that Capcom is going to produceResident Evil 8next, and apparently, survival-horror fans won’t have to wait all that long to get their hands on the game.

This is according to AestheticGamer, who has accurately leakedResident Evilnews in the past. Apparently,Resident Evil 8is aiming to release in January 2021, which would mirror theResident Evil 2and7release dates. However, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic is potentially disrupting Capcom’s development ofResident Evil 8, and so the game could end up being delayed. If so, AestheticGamer believes that the newResident Evil 8release date will fall in the January-March 2021 window.

This matches up withCapcom’s ownResident Evilteases, with the company suggesting that it has something big andRE-related to release by March 2021. As for when fans will get an official confirmation ofResident Evil 8, that remains to be seen, but there appears to be a couple of distinct opportunities in the near future that seem the most likely candidates forRE8reveal dates.

For one, it’s possible that Capcom will revealResident Evil 8alongside the PlayStation 5. The PS5 reveal hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s expected to take place Wednesday, June 3, according to the latest reports. Capcom has announced otherResident Evilgames as part of PlayStation events, and so it wouldn’t be a stretch for it to do so withResident Evil 8as well. However, with Sony supposedly showing off aPS5 exclusiveSilent Hillreboot at its PS5 event, it stands to reason that it may want to keepRE8away so that it doesn’t draw attention away from its exclusive horror game.

If that’s the case, the other date that seems likely is June 10. Capcom has supposedly revealed to members of the Resident Evil Ambassador program that theResident Evil 8reveal will take place on June 10, but that remains unconfirmed at the time of this writing. We do know that there will be a number of big gaming events throughout June as part of the Summer Game Fest, and so a June announcement does seem likely.

Whenever Capcom decides to announceResident Evil 8, it will be interesting to see if the rumors about the game are true. For the uninitiated,Resident Evil 8is rumored to be first-person, with some significant departures from franchise norms.Resident Evilfans should find out the truth sooner rather than later.
